Atlassian Cuts Jobs, Boosts AI Investment

Atlassian, an Australian tech company, is laying off 252 workers in California. This is part of a larger 1,600-worker reduction, representing 10% of its staff. CEO Mike Cannon-Brookes stated the cuts fund investment in artificial intelligence and sales. Most affected California employees were remote workers. The company offered extensive severance packages to those impacted.

I hope I just get laid off in these next rounds. A layoff is a band-aid ripped off with severance. PIP is torture. You still try, because some stupid part of your brain thinks you can beat it. So you exhaust yourself 'improving,' only to get fired anyway, just without the severance. What other tricks do they have planned?


How to volunteer for layoff/RIF

I am burnt out and going to take a career break, but how can I be part of layoffs if there is a second round? Might as well try to get some severance pay, based on hcsc policy for years worked here. B2B Mid Markets are cooked

30 day PIP process, based on DAPR numbers not CCRS. Takes one month of lackluster results, and 90 days to get off. Even if you hit the quarterly number, a single monthly miss puts you on a written. Have fun trying to take vacation or any time off.

R2B moving out of stores, managing the biggest demographic, and outnumbering Mid Markets 2:1. Open reqs for Mid Markets continually closing and reopening, no new hires.

Full calendars of nothing but blitz calls and zero focus on anything but "growth" via new logos and phone adds. Calendar filled up for 10hr, and being told by Sr Managers and Directors that we need to "sacrifice" to hit the number.

It has been a fun ride. Hopefully it ends in some severance packages and not just managing everyone out with asinine policies.


3/19/26 layoffs News Flash

Grade 30 reporting this:
3/19/26 is 1 of 4 layoffs coming. Was informed UBH, ECS, OI, PI, CCR, Optum Serve, MCO, E&I, and numerous customer service roles will be impacted. This is 1 of 4 more remaining layoffs occurring in 2026.

For those remaining, PIPs will be the new norm to avoid paying severence packages. Easiest way to reduce $. Workforce will be even more slim & existing work will continue to increase w fewer resources. AI is expected to reduce the time to do the work. OGS will pick up the new jobs (+ they get a $10-20k bonus for OGS referrals).

Buckle up - even tougher times are ahead.

The old guard is ready to leave and just cashing checks at this point.

MGRs are disengaged over the ridiculous demands, broken equipment, increased micromanaging, and 25% individual store bonus multiplier...getting worse daily.

Sycamore would be wise to move quickly on this.


Severence - anyway to expedite?

Laid off 3/5/26. Electronically submitted severence paperwork the next day. People say it takes 2-3 pay periods until it’s paid out. Is there any way to expedite?

Asking as I might take another internal position (I’m in the hiring process). You forfeit severance if you are hired back on BEFORE your severence pays out.

Would like to get severence AND get back on since the job market is terrible where I live.

Any suggestions from this group?

This company gives 0 f’s about any employee other than their bottom line my whole department laid off in February and they spew redeployment BS. Two decades working for them relocating many times across the country. Apply for 15 internal jobs and not one interview. Always had strong performance reviews. Landed a job quickly outside the firm so I guess take the severance and run.


Census optimization apology

Apologies.
Please be aware that planned optimization activities must be postponed this weekend because we migrated our accounts and nobody in the department can reach the share point with the list of lucky block 6 lottery winners.
We are working around the clock and expect to have normal randomized employee census optimization up and running soon.
IT apologies for any delay in receiving your severance.

PS : next month we expect to have the census agent bot up and running. It will work round the clock to detect any employee down time and automatically fire people when direct labor drops below daily targets.

Severance in the US

Severance packages in the US have been consistent over the years: 2-4 weeks plus 1 week for every year of service, capped at 26 weeks. Plus one free month of cobra.

Garden leave was a new benefit in 2025, which kept the dejobbed on payroll and benefits for a few weeks. No idea if that was a one off or if it will become standard.

Severance and 401k

For those that got laid off, were you able to contribute to your 401k in the paycheck you received a week for every year worked.

Question #2, under wishful thinking, was there any company match. Pretty sure i know the answer on that one.
