Taking PTO a factor in the PE layoff?

A significant chunk of the team is gone and seems like a common pattern is that they took a healthy amount of PTO in general. A colleague also barely took PTO but was recently forced by their manager to take leaves and maintain good balance and they did, and were laid off now. Almost all of them took a long time off summer.

Any similar pattern in your teams? Feeling worried and more hesitant to take PTO now after this. Was planning a visit to see family but thinking of cancelling it now.

Finally free! Looking for practical advice before resigning

First thank you to this community for all the early info & giving me the confidence that I wasn’t alone in feeling this way.

9 year g-n who interned and hired on. The company has changed and I’ve finally had enough.

Couple questions for this board:

  • what vacation is payed out? Should I take all my comp & carryover?
  • is there a practical way to negotiate the annual compensation value of the pension with new company? Pension tool not helpful
  • print out any important health documents
    Any other tips?

Also, for those wanting to leave… yes it’s not the post covid market, but there are companies looking for talented employees. If you are here you are talented and will be valued elsewhere.

I hope they've considered the mass vacation that's about to happen.

Assuming we get notified 7/27 and that most people's end date is 9/4, that only gives 5 weeks for everyone to use up vacation and personal time. They don't want us taking PTO within 2 weeks of separation, so all vacation has to be used by 8/21. I don't know about everyone else, but I've got 16 days of vacation/sick time to burn, and I'm not the only one in my department who has admitted to applying for the VSP. If we all get accepted with the default exit date, my team will be running at 40% capacity. It will be a good preview of the sh-t show that they are about to walk into.

Greetings from Charter!

Hello from the otherside. Just wanted to reach out to y'all and see what kind of rumors and info we can swap.

Big thing for us this last week was our 3% automatic retirement contribution was canceled, and now all vacation time has to be used up by 12/31 every year or you lose it. No vacation time rollovers.

The rumor behind the vacation change, is that there will be big layoffs in Q1 2027, and this way they don't have to pay out the accumulated time.

Severance here (from a round in 2025) was 2 weeks per year of service, unclear on upper end caps and 1 month of benefits.

What are you hearing on your end?

How does the WARN notice take affect if I lived in NY for 3 months then moved to NJ.

What if its the summer equinox after the mid year election on a Tues and I’m on vacation leave. If they send out a notice on a Wednesday before that Tues. how am I affected? Do I get extra pay or am I penalized? I’ve read the handbook and I don’t see a section that covers this.

Question for those of you who were RIF'd and already rec'd your final paycheck

By 'final paycheck', I mean the check that comes a few weeks after your termination date and includes reimbursement for accrued unused vacation time (or, in the case of over 65s, all unused vacation days til the end of the year). Were any medical or 401k deductions taken out of the vacation pay?

Payout

Just wondering: I remember an old coworker asking and I don't recall the answer. Do we get our 5 weeks vacation in the 2nd year of our 104 weeks termination pay? I cannot find the answer in our Leg T CWA contract. Also, I wonder if I can call in sick in the 103rd week of payout and then go on paid disability for 6 months. Would I need to file FMLA? Am I entitled to any more entitlements?

Should I use up my vacation days before leaving Ford?

For those who left Ford voluntarily, how was the vacation days processed when you leave? If you have earned vacation days that were not used, did you get paid for those days in your last paycheck? If I use up all my vacation days will those days be deducted from my last paycheck? Did you have a meeting with HR such as exit interview right before you leave?

New RTO and vacation

Is there anyone from HR who thought through this policy and impact on vacation.
Band 5 - you take Thursday/ Friday off - that week counts against you
Band 3. -4/1 posture - you basically are never taking vacation that is less than a full week. Let’s say you have 2 days sick and then 2 days vacation in the same reporting period, you can not miss another single day - vacation or not.
I know they want us to quit, but layoffs would be more humane and effective instead of making everyone miserable.
