This week started my teams AI usage. It only does one part of our work so far and it needs some fixes. But I think this is the end lol. CRIU- when will we be let go? Any guesses?

I have been applying everywhere, but specifically avoiding places like Optum, UHG etc, where I’m pretty sure I would get hired. I want to keep saving my severance. Has anyone else taken this approach or am I remembering the severance package terms incorrectly?

Reyes Beverage Company acquired assets from Republic National Distribution Company. This deal included RNDC's Phoenix distribution facility. Reyes acquired the Phoenix facility on June 2 for $42.6 million. RNDC previously filed a notice of potential layoffs. This notice affected 211 jobs at the Phoenix warehouse.

Capital One is cutting nearly 300 jobs. These reductions are part of its acquisition of Discover Financial Services. The acquisition is valued at $50 billion. This marks the fourth round of layoffs. The job cuts are linked to the Discover deal.

Whirlpool Corporation will end second-shift production at its Amana plant. This change is effective July 5. A total of 288 employees will be affected by these layoffs. The company attributes these actions to a multi-year modernization plan. Whirlpool previously laid off 341 workers in March at the same facility.

ESPN expects another round of layoffs. This follows its recent acquisition of NFL Network. The NFL gained a 10-percent interest in ESPN in the deal. The NFL Network purchase is a major factor in these upcoming job cuts. Both off-air and on-air employees are expected to be affected.

I've worked closely with a few core systems for years and always believed that made me valuable to Cisco. Recently I've watched people with deep knowledge get pushed aside during layoffs and it's changed the way a lot of us look at long term stability here. We still work hard, but there's definitely less confidence that loyalty or expertise will matter when decisions get made. So many of us have started looking. Loyalty has to be a two way street or it simply disappears.

I've been on both sides of this, and the fear of not having a job is just as bad as the misery of having one you hate. Watching your savings drain and your health coverage get closer to expiring is its own special kind of he-l. You still got a paycheck coming in, don't waste that advantage. Even if you think you're safe, it won't hurt you to start looking, just in case. There's a huge difference between getting to do it while still employed than when you're already without a job.

I just returned to work on 5/28 after being out on short term disability for a heart condition. Apparently I missed the mass video firing? I came back to see my supervisor and others in my team chat as "user unknown" Confused, I reached out to get some understanding of what I missed, I was ignored. So I clocked in and began my day. Member choice center btw. About 2 hours in, I received a meeting invite and was informed that my job was eliminated and was to clock out after the meeting. Which actually is fine because this job was soul su-king and I found something better. I do have a question about severance though. How long does it take to get severance and the email with info on that?

My day to day has been completely replaced with codegen.
Everything from coding, reviewing and analysis.
I havent used my brain in months, everything is done by AI.
Its a blessing and a curse.

As soon as they can resolve the issue with accountability, you will be made redundant and unemployable.

What is your exit strategy ?

I come into work every day wondering if something is about to change and nobody says a word. The lack of communication about job security is becoming exhausting.

For anyone lucky enough not to know, it’s where you record yourself answering interview questions while an AI quietly judges you. Essentially a corporate Tinder.
This is a director level posting, not a role getting hundreds of entry-level applicants. I’ve been here over 20 years, and I only apply to things I actually care about—not panic-clicking “apply” at midnight. My skills were a great match for the role. I’m also not eager to risk awkwardness with my current manager just to get rejected because I didn’t maintain “optimal eye contact with my webcam.” Its a lateral move so I really need a two-way conversation with HR first to assess compatibility.
I was told it’s mandatory, so I withdrew.
Am I overreacting? Is this just the times? I get it AI is everything now but I feel certain circumstances should not be using this route to weed out candidates. Id love to hear from those who think this is a great idea because I must be missing something and some day I may very well HAVE to use it..

First, I wasn't surprised by my LR nor am I bitter. We all know Cisco is a cost-manager first and foremost, and there is still so much that can (and will) be cut from Cisco (and every other large tech co).

I actually applied to some internal roles, mostly for yucks. One HR screen for an SRE position but it was clear they really just wanted someone cheap and low-skill. Hard to get excited about anything internal when you know how Cisco is run.

Otherwise it is quite brutal out there. The traditional job search (resume, apply, interview, offer) is completely over-saturated and time-consuming. I don't think Cisco on my resume is seen as good or bad...it is a name people have heard of but doesn't impress like a FAANG. So you can't expect to get a pass based on your experience.

Interview prep and tech screens are much more absurdly difficult than anytime I can remember. I feel like I am cramming for the SAT. Problem is, every day I spend prepping is another day lost to other things I could be doing. The opportunity cost feels high.

On top of all of this, I have noticed an undeniable trend - declining published salaries ranges.

Companies know this is a buyer's market and are flipping the table on candidates.

I feel really bad for candidates who need $$$ to pay bills ASAP. I wonder how many will just drop out of tech.

As for me, I am going to be an entrepreneur out of necessity. I feel like I am in a su---r's game and I am just wasting week after week chasing what shouldn't be an impossible dream - a moderately decent job in my field - but it is what it is.

Baptist Health–Fort Smith plans to eliminate 70 more jobs. This action is part of an ongoing restructuring effort. The total number of announced job cuts now reaches about 220. These job reductions have been announced since April. The health system is located in Fort Smith.

From what I have seen lately, many experienced workers are checking openings in the background but holding off on changing jobs until companies start hiring more steadily again. Once that happens, we'll see a major exodus of talent.

Does anyone have any idea when the next round will be, June or July 2026?

Please don't assume we're back just because we're hiring. If you've followed the trend over the last few years, OpenText has often hired and then later laid off employees to backfill positions. The current hiring activity alone doesn't necessarily indicate sustained growth.

Toshiba International Corporation is laying off 67 workers. These layoffs will occur at its Houston, Texas facility. The changes are effective this September. The company cited a plant closure as the reason. The specific plant closing was not identified.

This place pays cr-p, is unsafe, toxic, and with horrible management. I'm not sure why anybody's goal would be to stay at US Foods long term. I've been looking for something else for a while as it is, getting them to pay me to leave would truly be a dream come true.

Anyone else? Got told last day is 6/6/26, ironically enough. On the east coast. Not even sure if all my coworkers are aware yet either. Next steps are basically severance or reapply to a role nearby and hope the rsm likes you. Had another friend find out the same thing at his store in the south as well.

The last RA included one of my older teammates. The guy knew this place inside out as he's been here for a couple of decades. He was not pushy, didn't clamor for raises or bonuses. I don't know if he ever took a sick day. At least I didn't notice. He was also probably our most productive employee. So if IBM is willing to get rid of somebody like that, there's really nothing any of us can do to ensure our safety.

I’ve seen most indirect retailers are hiring for newly created small business account managers. Does Verizon have a plan to layoff some of their VBG employees? I’ve heard that Verizon is making the retailers hire that position. Anyone hear anything similar?

More than 4,000 working Tennesseans have been affected by layoffs or business closures at the halfway point of 2026.

The latest WARN notices posted by the state involve two Middle Tennessee companies. Those notices, posted this week, affect more than 250 workers.

Compared with the same period last year, the number of Tennesseans affected by layoffs or closures is nearly the same. From January 21 to May 30 of last year, more than 4,200 workers were affected. This year, from January through yesterday, more than 4,000 workers have lost their jobs.

In Knox County, more than 200 workers have been affected since January. That includes layoffs at Premier Building Maintenance Corporation in February and the closure of McKay’s Books earlier this month.

I have two job offers that I am considering, and one is from IBM consulting services. Great company but with so many of the big firms laying off by the 10’s of thousands, it gives me pause to accept the IBM offer.

I am on a year long leave. I was just told my position was eliminated. Does this mean I am pretty much fired when my year off ends or does it mean I just go to a new department?
