IBMs professional job hoppers

I have been working in a mildly successful IBM product for the last 12 years. Some years ago my boss at the time warned me about something I am now experiencing first hand: Well connected higher ups work on the flashy IBM fad that almost always fail (block chain, cp4d, Watson health, Watsonx….) then a layoff happens, the base workers and the first line take most of the blow, and these professional bosses are parachuted into a more established product. It’s been 8 months since a big layoff impacted my team, the layoff came with new bosses, all of them from failed products. They know nothing about my product (and are not willing to learn), but keep making decisions that they are not (remotely) capable of understanding their consequences , they all came with big attitude and egos; always ready to hoard the travel opportunities and post in LinkedIn at every turn. They will surely sink the product and jump to the next one. Have you seen this as well?

I don't know how leadership sleeps at night, while we are changing people one person at a time.

For those of you left behind, narcissist Leahy is going to hang on (at least) until the end of the Games of the XXXIV Olympiad. Good luck keeping the lights on while ducking the ever lowering deck of the CDW tractor!

Remember how the company lifecycle works:

  1. Founder/Engineer – Builds a great product (Krasny)
  2. Salesperson – Figures out how to sell it and grows revenue.
  3. Professional Manager (MBA) – Scales the organization and optimizes operations (Edwardson)
  4. Accountant/CFO – Focuses on efficiency, margins, and cost control (Richards)
  5. Lawyer – Tries to manage the lawsuits, regulations, and decline (Leahy) <== You are here

We were told a completely different story about a leadership exit in Finance. Total lack of transparency. Shameful

Happy 4th y'all

Is this going to be Nike's independence day? Check out the unforced error discussion here.
Come on marketing and merchandising leaders... You can do better!
Will we ever learn and improve? No one at the top echelons ever pays for their mistakes, do they? Instead the rank and file suffers.

When did merit stop mattering?

I keep asking myself when things started going wrong. I've been here long enough to remember a time when this company actually valued its best employees, when merit actually meant something, and when the people who worked hardest and produced the most were the ones who got rewarded. That feels like a different lifetime now. These days it's all about who can talk their way into favor and who knows the right people. That's it. That's all that matters. The ones who actually do the work are either ignored or shown the door.

APLA gone by September

You heard it here first! Grouping the ROW together simply doesn't work!

New Geo Structure;

North America / Latin America - VP, TP - HQ: Beaverton and Mexico City
Europe / Middle East / Africa - VP, CG - HQ: Hilversum
Greater China / Asia Pacific - VP, CS - HQ: Shanghai and Seoul

Simplified to 3 Geos and taking advantage of geographic proximity.

Shell CEO concerned about security and political insecurity in the UK

Shell’s Wael Sawan has been briefed by the security services about looming security concerns in the UK. Shell has enhanced its leadership get out fast procedures. Top Shell economist also forecast significant economic challenges which would negatively escalate the UKs attractiveness.

Estimate when Shell changes domicile to the USA or even Dubai.

Uncon. Run by the best leadership

Proud to be in Uncon. Working for the best, corrupt, useless leadership. All they care about is posting in LinkedIn how great they are. Seeing supervisors and managements treat their people like slaves day in / day out and wait for the ranking results … We all know a supervisor or manager; they really don’t do a sht daily. They look busy.

PIP first or surplus first?

Anyone else feel like management has been trying to build a case against them after a reorg?

My org has gotten really toxic. I’ve been hearing PIP talk, but I honestly don’t think they have enough to put me on one yet. My past mid-year and year-end reviews have been strong, my attendance has been good except for a few system issues, and I know my job well. It just feels like leadership decided they don’t want me around anymore.

If you’re in this situation, is it more likely they’ll eventually fire you for performance, or would you end up getting surplused first? Or maybe a PIP is a way to set the ground for a surplus (as a way to tell HR “Look, he is on a PIP because he doesn’t work very well, so he is our chosen duck to target for the layoff).
Curious if anyone has gone through something similar. Is it possible to fight it?

Opinions on BP Wells LS and LJP as leaders

You get to determine the direction and fate of bp wells just you brilliantly did with the minister of people and culture. These two managers come with skill sets, challenges, and positive and negative attributes. How will Wells perform moving forward. The more you share the more the needle moves…sounds weird but it’s true

Lucid Overhauls Leadership Following Layoffs and Production Cuts

Lucid is replacing almost its entire executive team under new CEO Silvio Napoli. This leadership overhaul follows the struggling EV maker cutting 18% of its workforce. The company also recently withdrew its 2026 production guidance. New hires include a Chief Financial Officer, Chief Technology Officer, and Chief Customer Officer. Lucid is also creating a distinct business unit for robotaxis, AI, and advanced technologies.

The Wells Invasion

I’d like to get everyone’s thoughts on Wells Fargo leaders that are taking over in technology. Starting with Steve Hagerman down as old BB&T and SunTrust leaders are pushed out they’re being replaced by folks from Wells Fargo. They keep hiring their friends from Wells for HUGE money and most of them are getting exceptions to work remotely even they are enforcing the policy that all new hires need to be in a Truist office. They seem quite toxic leading by fear and are turning our culture into the terrible culture they created and left behind at Wells.

Doomsday for ESG

Sri Hosakote has a reputation as a ruthless decision-maker, and anyone who worked with him at Nile knows exactly what that means.

For the ESG folks, the easy days may be over. The rough stretch has begun.

Better start polishing those resumes.

Executive leadership and vision

Lets break down the Calgary office and layoff decision

  • Quarry Park built and move in Sept 2014 (Cost $416.8 million)
  • Quarry Park sold 2026 (Sold $60 Million)
    Net Loss $356 Million

Assumed an office would be built at Scona (too bad its inside the blast radius), now Leasing Stantec Tower

Announced layoff of 900 people (20% of above field staff) but 81% of Calgary office

R&D center 'donated to SAIT' - $37M donation

Meanwhile 'strait of hormuz' closed and changed forever and Canada is exporting more oil and gas to Asia than ever imagined

Instead of leaning in and leading Canadian energy IMO now won't be invited to the table

Congrats to the executive leadership team, a pancake breakfast will make it all better
