When did the Nike Sport Research Lab become toxic?

Not sure I understand how this happened. I’ve only been here 5 years, but the Sport Research Lab seems to have crazy low morale. A lot of people are abusing the workplace complaints system to attack bosses and colleagues. It didn’t always seem like this. Now leadership is doing these silly culture exercises to try and solve this huge problem because everyone is afraid of being targeted by their own co-workers.

Is it like this in other departments? Because it’s really bad over here in NSRL.

Practice Advisory Consulting

Why, as a leader in the field, am I now having to do the work of this team? The math is strange - I generate revenue, the firm allocates my revenue for this home office work yet I’m the one doing their work. From what I hear - the GP running it is inadequate and the directors are incompetent and have created a toxic environment where their staff left their area leaving us to do their roles. How are they still employed?

OpenText is the worst company ever!

This company is the worst ever. They have no clue what they are doing. SMBC is for sale, probably sold already. Just let us go already. I'm not giving in though; they are going to pay me severance. Treating people like sh!t is going to work, and they aren't going to voluntarily leave.

NAN you to death

If I hear the word NAN one more time. Why does US Bank not get it. No one has time for that cr-p. I have never seen branch more micromanaged than they are right now. TOXIC place to work with unethical behavior happening all over the place. Wish this
company would just go belly up and I cannot wait to get the F out.

How do you deal with a toxic work group?

My Wells Fargo group is made of seven people, in which five are women and two are men. Of the women, four of them are full-blown Karens and very unpleasant to work with. The remaining woman keeps to herself and has been looking for an internal transfer for months. Of the four Karens, and reason for the group toxicology, not sure if the Karens like each other or see it as to their advantage to act as a group as they like people to think they do.

Horrible place to work.

If you have a chance to get away from Big Red, do it. If you can live without the severance pay, don't sign the agreement. That way you can speak your mind without looking behind your back everyday. Having gone through the last layoff was the best thing for me. There is a secret society of managers and leadership that are terrible towards the employees. Some of them managers are on short term assignments and don't care who they hurt. They are taught to be terrible and will stab you in the back on a Tuesday and smiling at you on Monday. They are not your friend. Doesn't matter what are you work in, all the managers are conditioned the same. One single HR person runs the whole thing and she is no better. She doesn't care about either and will lie to your face. I could say more but remember this run away if you can.

Is anyone experiencing a toxic work environment?

Is anyone experiencing a toxic work environment? I've noticed it's only getting worse for people. Managers are getting more demanding and criticizing almost every task. I know 5 people that were pushed out in the last few years. I currently know several people who are getting pushed and pushed to get more work done and they are strong ICs. There's not a lot of work/life balance left. I wonder if they are doing this in anticipation that there might be layoffs soon in the future.

Hostile work environment

Worst culture. No ethics. Body shaming, talk bad about other cultures, harassing juniors, contract workers, women. Comment bad in front of others about their skills and work. No appreciation at all. No satisfaction. Even if you work 9+ hours at office, you’ve to work on weekends and nights to finish the work assignments. No agile methodology used. Sometimes no stories - just do whatever the senior staff says. No mixed culture - they’re scared to hire other culture people. Very very bad

Summary of The Oracle Doormat Principle reported by AI

The Oracle Doormat Principle is a term coined by former employees to describe a psychological state where individuals remain loyal to Oracle Corporation despite experiencing mistreatment, toxic work environments, or career stagnation.

Definition: It is likened to Stockholm Syndrome, where employees become emotionally attached to an organization that has abused them, often internalizing the company culture as a "family."
Causes: The principle suggests that prolonged exposure leads to low self-esteem, fear of change, and a paralysis to act in one's best interest, causing workers to accept pay cuts, benefit reductions, and abusive management without protest.
Criticism: Critics argue this behavior stems from low self-worth and prevents personal career growth, with some advising that if a work environment is bad, it rarely improves and employees should leave as soon as possible.
Context: The term gained traction on layoff discussion forums, often appearing alongside complaints about dry promotions (more workload for no financial upgrade) and perceived corporate cultures of fear.

Embarrassing Company

It’s sad to say, but we’re back to where we started when JD was here. The environment is toxic, the directors are promoted by their friends who are at the top. The vibe around campus is depressing and we have no new innovations. Marketing is just throwing celebrities in Ads - with slogans written by 12 year olds. What happened to ‘getting back to sport’? Step foot out of Oregon and you’ll see people don’t give an f about Nike.

Channeling Vengeance for the Downsized

Regardless of whether you are currently in the latest round of layoffs or simply anticipating your turn on the chopping block, consider this thread a sanctuary for our shared grievances. Channel your hatred, humiliation, and the injustices inflicted by your dim-witted yet treacherous and repulsive (desi) colleagues, and manifest them as curses here. Together, our concentrated malice will surely invoke cosmic intervention to cleanse.

Horrible, horrible environment

I've worked some bad jobs before but nothing even comes close to what this place has done to me. The leadership is awful, the managers are worse, and I genuinely don't recognize myself anymore after dealing with it all. It's taken such a toll on my head and my confidence that I'm not sure how much longer I can keep showing up like nothing's wrong.

It’s hard to trust anyone

I don’t know when work turned into everyone trying to prove they’re the last one who should be cut, but that’s what it feels like now. People chase approval, grab credit, and act friendly until there’s a chance to make someone else look bad. It’s draining.

The worst part is that this isn't accidental. When leadership rewards this kind of behavior, people learn fast. I'm relatively new in my career but if this is how it's always going to be, well fu-k.

My Experience in Belk as an IT worker

I wanted to share my experience working within the Belk IT department. I have been out of this position for some time, but from what I’ve learned, it hasn't changed and it has somehow gotten even worse. While store employees face their own set of challenges, the backend IT support structure is completely dysfunctional and treats its tech workers with an absolute lack of respect.

To start, the geographical territory assigned to a single IT field worker is massive and brutal, often matching the exact same coverage area as a Regional Vice President (RVP). Despite this massive responsibility, the compensation is insulting. The pay is so far below industry standards that it rivals fast-food wages. Because of the vast territory, you are forced to travel anywhere from 30 minutes to over 3 hours just to get to a location. This makes the role completely unsustainable for anyone with a family or anyone who values a healthy work-life balance.

Once you actually arrive at a store, the execution is a joke. Nine times out of ten, a field tech is forced to escalate an issue because our on-site capabilities are severely restricted. You are then left waiting for hours just to get a response from a clearly apathetic corporate support team or an offshore team that is incredibly difficult and tedious to communicate with. Furthermore, Belk’s Point of Sale (POS) systems are completely unreliable, and actual application support is virtually non-existent. As a result, the standard "fix" is to completely re-image the machine, forcing the tech to sit around waiting hours for the process to complete just so the store can finally use the register again. And don't even try to complain or share what you've noticed with your manager. They know what's up and will never care. Ever.

There is so much more dysfunction I could detail, but I want the store employees to know this. When you see an IT person walk into your building, understand that we are miserable too. The only motivation corporate provides is an empty "thank you" from someone who never even shows up to the Teams meetings. The managers shares it with us as if we are impressed by that, and as if verbal appreciation pays the bills during a time of massive inflation and a harsh economy. The only real thanks I needed was the final good riddance to this joke of a workplace.

Still trying to figure out what the benefit is of keeping us demoralized

I don't understand this ever-increasing corporate need to make us all miserable. Being invested would surely make us more creative and productive. But nah. Instead, make us hate our jobs, our managers, and the company. I absolutely don't care about team dynamics or outcomes. I don't care if I have this job tomorrow. So I have no skin in the game. And I'm dedicated accordingly.

EA role changes

In what was once a somewhat protected role, we are now being told that the EA roles are now changing to a worldpay model. I’m fairly new to Global Payments and I’m worried about my job now. This place is toxic and creates anxiety for their employees. I work with a great bunch of admin gals (and some admins guys) but I’m feeling the anxiety of what others feel when they don’t know what’s to come.

The toxicity isn't a coincidence anymore

I've switched jobs three times in the past eight years, and every single time, I've ended up in the same kind of miserable, backstabbing environment - here included. At some point, you start to wonder if it's bad luck or if this is just how every workplace is designed to operate now. Ramp up the toxicity to make sure everybody stays in their place.

The Cruelty is the Point at Centene

As an ex Ambetter UM who recently got the RIF treatment, I can tell you no one here really cares about anyone except themselves. CenTEAM is just an internal marketing tool to keep the grunts going. I thought I had made some real lifetime friends here. But after I was given my notice, my “CenTEAM” treated me like I had the plague. I hope everyone who actually cares makes it out as soon as they can
